So peoples.... I'm not sure when or if we are having an official Christmas party. If not - this can count as it. But 1/1/10 RPGX will be throwing a LAN/Boardgame party at 8xid's house. All the details can be found HERE. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A PC GAMER TO COME. There will be plenty to do for those who don't want to play PC games - although we should at least get a good amount of people interested in playing. There will be a LAN party going on in one room (run by 8xid), boardgames and other fun in another (run by Stat.) Food and fun. Starts early and ends late!!! Check it out HERE. |

A) No DDO - That would require ALL of us be online at one location. That would kill everyone's bandwidth and probably just make the game LAG. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong - but we would all have to use a wireless connection for that. I don't think it would be enjoyable (although technically possible.) B) If you read the event you would know the answer to the second question as well as how to dress appropriately.

Blue Eyes and I are going to have to go on the "maybe" list for now, we are not too sure of the schedule for that day/weekend. Hopefully we will be able to let you know soon. |

Star Craft with Brood Wars, or just Star Craft, without Broodie-poodies? I'm thinkin' I'm gonna try to learn a different race, since I like... ALWAYS play as Protoss and go for an expansionistic resource-hog mini-turtle approach. OOH! HEY!! I actually invented an idea (granted, not very original...). Like I invented it in the face, despite it's obviousness, and its been-done-before-ness. What if we agreed to play one game with the rule that no Defensive Structures are allowed? So like none of these: No Bunkers No Photon Cannons No Sunken Colonies / Spore Colonies It's just an idea, and it might totally blow the nuggets (let's face it, all of us were "secretly" planning on Turtling). But I'm thinking it might make for a better game, since we'd be REQUIRED to build units instead of defensive structures, and then eventually we'd all hit that point of "dang, no one has attacked anyone, and I'm maxed out on dudes... But I've still got a million resouces... Oh well, guess I'll send half the army off to fight while I build more..." No what I'm sayin'? Just an idea. We can totally play normal style too. |

Meh. Turtling sucks, but the defensive units are still a part of your balanced RTS breakfast. If we ran a game banning them, I'd also want a game that banned the big guns of each race (Terran siege tanks, Protoss, uh, Flying Things that have all the little flying things (been a while), etc.) and maybe one that bans the "sneaky" units (Ghosts, Arbiters, Queens). See what I mean? |

I'd actually find all of those game variants interesting. Particularly the one that bans the big guns. Carriers. The big protoss blimp with fruit-flies is called the Carrier. It would be an interesting question to ask which unit for the Zerg would get canned in that one. The Ultralisk? That's like one of the least-used units in the game anyway... The Mutalisk? hmmm... I was also wondering whether it would be better in that scenario to ban the TErran Seige Tank, or the Battleship? I mean, I guess what I really mean is that that kind of idea might work better if you had it like this: One game bans defensive buildings. One game bans the Big Air Unit-- Protoss = Carrier. Terran = Battleship. Zerg = Mutalisk. One game bans the Big Land Unit-- Protoss = Reaver. Terran = Seige Tank. Zerg = Ultralisk. One game bans Spell Casting Units-- Protoss = Templar, Dark Archon, Arbiter. Terran = Science Vessel, Ghost, ?. Zerg = Queen, Defiler, ?. One game bans Basic Troops-- Protoss = Zealots. Terran = Marines. Zerg = Zerglings. Some of those options sound entertaining. Granted, we'd likely only want to do one or two thingy-banning games per LAN. Most games would be "regular," but... yeah, I'd be willing to try it if y'all would. |

I think a game in which you can only build basic ground troops and crystal mining characters would be cool. I mean at first it sounds like it would be long, but if you can only mine and build basic troops eventually you will have to start looking for resources, so the game would be nothing but large skirmishes. I just think it would be neat. |

Anyone wanting to beef up their skills at UT2k4 before the party should know that the clan server is up and public. (You can find the info on our clan page [ http://www.rpgx.org/clan.php ] ) The leader boards are already active. Game types change daily and levels change hourly (or faster if a round is complete.) Map voting is currently turned on. |

I'm thinking about postponing this a week to better suit everyone's schedule. Anyone in favor of this idea please chime in (or out) This might be better for Ender/Blue Eyes, and I dunno if it changed anything for Orphan... Also - if the party is moved down, I would like to play Eberron during the weekend this is originally scheduled for. |

Hey, I was thinking... WIth the LAN part of it, would it be possible to have people in different rooms LANed together? That way we could have team battles, and each team could be in a different room so they could talk to each other. Just cuz if you're all in the same room, then the teams can't talk, since their enemies will here it. I remember the last time we were at a hotel with a LAN we tried to set up voice servers only to realize that everyone could hear everyone no matter what... I dunno... does multi-rooming work? |

I don't want to spread people all over my house, and I surely don't want to segregate. I don't feel like having a nervouse break down because my wife is wondering who is spilling kool-ade unsupervised in othe rparts of the house. last time we had PLANNED on setting up a voice server, but didn't do it because the clan network wasn't up yet AND some jack ass (who I won't mention - eh hem, Nemo) ANNOUNCED to the room about an opposing players strategy even though there weren't teams. This time the teamspeak server is up (its going now as it ha sbeen for a while) and will be availible for the LAN. EVERYONE should bring a headphones with a Mic. If you don't currently own andy you should get a cheap set or let me know and I will help you out. If your in a headset and on voice channels team play works just fine. You could sit right next to an opposing team member and not know what they are up to. |
