So, Acid brought up the question of how we make a group of Vampire characters in New York who actually get along. I kinda figure that means maybe we should start a thread on it where we can post our ideas and do a collective thinky on it. |

I had proposed making us all from one of the clans that gets along with itself. This was basically pwned. Other ideas: 1-- We're a pack in the Sabbat, so we get to all be Vaulderied to each other. That could also help with the whole Dix thing, since he could be the most recent embrace and have the most modernized skills. 2-- We're all on a Path whose members have to get along. This is really kinda identical to the Clan and Pack ideas, since most of those Paths are either mono-clan Paths or are in the Sabbat, so... (I mean I guess for overkill we could make us a Pack in the Sabbat, all of the same Clan, and on the same Path whose members have to get along...). 3-- Just agree out of character that we're not going to play the "I can blackmail you," or the "My character is an A-hole to his friends" game. We can acknowledge that we as players are omnipotent, and can invent reasons why our characters would choose to not be douches. That's the approach I'm using with the Eberron game. Sure, I've built you in as Family, but beyond that I'm just holding your responsible for choosing actions that don't tank the game. 4-- If we're Camarilla, we could have been serving in the same War Party under one of the Archons when the Cam took New York. That way we fought together a bunch, worked together a bunch, and would have that "shared-interests + comarades-in-arms = buddies" dynamic. This would require that the GM allow us to have the status that goes with that. 5-- Again if we're Camarilla, we could all share a kind of Title. Example: If we're all the Primogen of different clans, then we woudl totally be each other's non-friends. HOWEVER, we'd all have it in common that we'd be scared of all the neonates around us and would have to constantly be elevating ourselves above them. We'd also have the common "threat" of the Prince and all his other lackeys like the Sheriff or whatever. So we'd be working against each other, but we'd also be working together, and would have that situation of knowing that anything we did to weaken the others would also weaken ourselves (if one Primogen gets taken out of office, that lets the whole city know that any Primogen can be taken out of office...). Another example would be like "Sheriff + Deputies" or something. **See, I keep having other ideas, but the fact is that Vampire, especially if you play Camarilla, is a game inwhich friendship and trust are completely impossible to sustain. I mean, any commonality we establish between our characters besides the ones I listed (same sire, same talents, same influences, same anything) instantly becomes a realm of competition, not cooperation. "Oh, you're all working for the same Archon and were given the job of together finishing mission XYZ? Well, that means you're all enemies, doesn't it!" --So i'm kinda thinking the only way to make us get along is to have us be not-Camarilla. The other groups actually provide their members with something to believe in, so if we're playing people from one of those groups, who actually believe in it, then we can get along. Problem-- GM's like taking anything a character believes in and shattering it. It's an irresistable urge. When that happens... we risk losing our thing that makes us get along... That's all I got for now is a bunch of question marks, sorry. |

I wish I had time to read this right now, but I don't... wait to post until I respond again. Oh and your idea was valid - I just wanted more than one I hadn't already thought of.... Also, I'm about 1/2 done with the intro packet for the game - so we might wait for that to be finished. |

Okay... read other thread as well please.... So - like you guys can fight and be vampires. That is fine. But you cannot surprise the other players with your power plays. Sure you think you have to keep it a secret for it to work, but it's not allowed. The politics of this will be player vs. GM. I can take it. The players should group and decide ahead of time how they will fuck each other over then follow through with their plots. Basically you guys storytell back to me. It's all good, but you have to do it well - Primogen don't have to be different clans. The Prince can totally pick all Ventrue if he wishes. It's just not politically wise (maybe) I have no problem with you guys being of power - all/a few/none See it's all pending a brief talk about what you want out of the game. |

Option Number Anus: We could be a group that survived the East Coast wars from another city. Kinda like you have the Las Vegas survivors who have gathered and who may or may not be buddies. We could be like the last remnants of DC, or Atlanta, or if we're Sabbat we could be from Miami. Then we could either be mono-clan or we could be diverse and be buddies + survivor-guilt = political-family. Just another idea to think about. |

Especially if we were all a Nosferatu Cell and I was like the Warren Mother... Dix could be the neonate with the computer and combat skillz for helping with Schrecknet... That actually works extra great since he's an electrician anyway OOC... |

I hate it when the player has more knowledge than me on something like that - makes it really hard to fake it with stats... Like computer hacking - it's like; "you cant get into the network" - "Well I'll just use my brute force/simoflange program." - "No that doesn't work." - Well it would have to because... "Dude, it's like a super magical password program and the GM just doesn't want you in there." - Oh, okay... well that's lame." Or when you just invent a reason to have 2 junction boxes outside the warehouse because you don't really know how electricity works. Stuff like that. |

It was an example... But lets say there's like a situation in the game where the power to building gets cut - DAVID knows how to fix that, but his character may not. That is frustrating. I also have to come up with a real problem for how the power is out. If I just say that wire X is cut, DAVID knows that BULL S!@#$ because simoflanges on commercial buildings keep that from happening.... See where I'm going. Now that doesn't mean I have anything against your character being built with 5 dots in electrical engineering, I was pointing out the problems that arise from it. |

Perhaps we could be one of the Tremere Chantries?? One of us is the Regent, and the others are the apprentices? That way even though we'd be total enemies and stuff, we'd always ALSO be allied against all the other Tremere Chantries, and we'd also always be allied with those Tremere Chantries against all the non-Tremere in the Camarilla (but we'd never tell them that). That way any jyhading against each other would ALWAYS be between ourselves, like if I tried to gain some status over O-God within the group. And we'd also be always allied with the non-Tremere Camarilla against the Anarchs and Sabbat. But it would always be like, "Rule numero uno is that you never make a clanmate look bad in front of the rest of the Camarilla." If I were gonna pick which chantry to make us, I'd pick that we should be Lord Ephraim Wainwright's chantry. Personal preference and all. |
