They'll just accept like the first 200 signer-uppers. What they're really collecting is data on how many people will buy it once its time to hit the shelves. They're calculating how many people want it, so they can put HALF that many on the shelves on shelf-day, thus creating a huge craving need for it, so that even more people buy it when the second wave of the game hits the shelves. And with the info required to register, they know EXACTLY how many copies are needed PER CITY. We lose.

There's a CLOSED BETA that only special people can play... and some of those people have taken the files of that closed beta and hacked the poop out of it so that now anyone can play it, and they've even created their own battlenet servers so that all these not-allowed-to-play-people can have battlenet fun without Blizzard's permission? Is that what I just read there? Like... I think this totally means that Blizzard is hosed, because there's a risk of there being NOTHING but pirated copies of this game in existence, like with a grand total of 17 people on the planet ACTUALLY buying it? Which would be us, since we don't condone pirating and the like. Like I totally think I just read that blizzard loses... like forever...

You can have three fourths of an amazing game for free, or you can have the whole game for 60 dollars, plus 15 dollars a month for the battlenes fees. Free forever... 60+15/month... Free forever... 60+15/month... With the beta thing in mind... it won't make only 17 copies sell. But it might reduce the number of sales by a third, or some other number. But it's not gonna be like a 5% drop. It's gonna be like... 20% or 50% or whatever. Right? Like it's still gonna kick Blizzard in the balls, right? Ro-Sham-Bo style, where Blizzard has to go second.

I think it said that they were working on a "battlenet" server to allow multiplayer. I don't think this is really going to hurt sales because people still buy the games and this is really only for the beta. Of course, this does mean that people will be able to hack the real game as well. Of course, I don't think there is a game yet that has not been hacked... Plus, I have not seen anything about them charging for BattleNet. It's not like WoW where you have the monthly fee. If they do start charging for it then I am going to have to rethink my future plans of buying these games.

Everything about the retail will make anyone still playing the beta rethink what they are playing - graphics, content, support, features. This stuff ALWAYS happens and in NEVER hurts sales.
