So, bright and early many days ago I got up, scoped out Windows Live, and downloaded me some of that digital crack know as Fallout 3, the DLC titled The Pitt specifically. Before I start in on the content it self let me first comment on it's fledgling day and the reaction to said day. I am disappointed in those individuals that chose to belittle the developers and distributors of The Pitt. Yes, there was a problem with the original download, but it was recognized and fixed in about 24 hours. An amazing feat really especially give the slightly unwieldy nature of even digital distribution. Instead of praising the company for quick and overwhelming response, many individuals (enough that the top comment on every news article was of the same vein) chose to berate Bethesda and their partners for delaying their God Given Right to quality gaming for a few token hours. While scoping out the news and status of the fixed Pitt release, I saw more whining and digital posturing over boycotts and what not than even a week long delay should have prompted. Anyway, rant over. All in all I loved the Pitt, much as I have loved Fallout 3 and Operation Anchorage. Yes there are still a few graphical glitches, even in the fixed version of the Pitt (the nice new Auto-Axes have a tendency to disappear while you are using them). Still, the gameplay is solid. Having the option to start as a slave and build up a rep and gear from scratch or blast and bully your way in interesting. Even more interesting is getting to see behind the masks of the slavers and raiders and get a glimpse of the psychology that made them so. The new weapons are a peach, I most like the Infiltrator (the new silenced assault rifle) and the Tribal Power Armor (yay for power armor that doesn't slow you down). My favorite aspect of the Pitt is the moral choices one must make while there. Unlike many of Fallout 3's moral choices in quests, there are no real black and white, good and evil choices. The end choice and result is very much a gray area, and no matter what you choose, you can't help but wonder what the future holds for the ruined Pittsburgh area. |
