Guitar Hero: World Tour stand-alone drums, guitar ship By Andrew Webster | ArsTechnica Despite being released last October, up until now players have not been able to purchase instruments for Guitar Hero: World Tour without buying the game itself. Activision has finally announced when we can expect to pick up extra plastic drum sets and guitars: February 15. The two instruments will be compatible with both World Tour and the upcoming Guitar Hero: Metallica. Unfortunately, Activision's announcement didn't reveal how these peripherals would be priced, though GameStop currently has listings for both the drums and guitar. According to the retailer, the drums will run gamers $99.99, while the guitar will cost $69.99. Even if you're not a fan of Guitar Hero, we're firm believers that the World Tour drums are better quality than what you get with Rock Band 2. The pads are thicker and quieter, the two built-in cymbals feel great, and the whole peripheral has a more robust feel than its competitor. If you don't have drums for either game, this is a worthy purchase, and some Rock Band players we know also prefer the World Tour guitars... although they're crazy. The ability to pick and choose what instrument to play with what game is an exciting part of selling the guitars and drums by themselves. With all of the issues regarding rhythm game instrument compatibility, it's surprising that it took this long for Activision to start selling the instruments for World Tour separately. At least they will be ready for when Metallica finally hits store shelves. If you're interested in that title, be sure to get your preorder in for your second pedal. |
