A real American hero: G.I Joe game incoming, based on film By Andrew Webster | ArsTechnica ![]() This Summer, Hasbro is going to show off its re-imagining of the Transformers with a new live-action film based on the classic G.I. Joe animated series, comic book, and action figure franchise. Though the trailer hasn't quite sold me, G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra does have the potential to be a fun, mindless action flick. To no one's surprise, a video game adaptation is set to be released alongside the film, which will be developed by Electronic Arts. The game will actually take place directly after the events of the movie, and will allow players to don the uniform of 12 different classic G.I. Joe characters. Few other details have been revealed, though Rise of the Cobra will include a single-screen co-op mode for some two player multiplayer action. The game is being developed for a sold six different platforms, which include the Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3. Andrew Webster * New Alien vs Predator game coming via Rebellion * Crytek: Free Radical will help us enter console market * God of War 3 details hit the Web, surprises lacking * Hideo Kojima to deliver keynote at 2009 GDC Rise of the Cobra is set to hit theaters on August 7, so the game adaptation should be released around that time. We will be able to get a look at the game later this month, when Hasbro shows it off at the Toy Fair in New York City February 15-17. It's tough to get excited about a licensed game like this, especially when the quality of the source material is still in question. Sadly, I'll probably still be giving the game a shot; it's pretty hard to pass up an opportunity to play as Snake Eyes. |
